Select Board raises police detail and cruiser rates, renews shared chief agreement with Becket

The Select Board approved an increase in police detail and cruiser rates and agreed to continue a three-year shared Police Chief agreement with Becket; the detail and cruiser rate increases passed 3-0.
Kris McDonough, staff member, presented comparative rates for police details and asked the board to consider raising Otis’ rates to remain competitive.
Gary Thomas, Select Board member, moved to raise the police detail rate to $70 and the cruiser rate to $35. Terry Gould, Select Board member, seconded the motion. The motion passed by voice vote, recorded as 3-0.
Board members also reviewed a three-year shared Police Chief agreement with the town of Becket. Brandi Page, Select Board member, said the board has been pleased with the shared arrangement; the board agreed to continue the partnership and will sign the agreement, with the original to be returned to Becket for signatures.
The rate increase will take effect according to the town's usual implementation procedures for detail billing. The board did not detail additional changes to department staffing or operations at this meeting.
