Abbot Public Library trustees approve holiday early-closings and staff conference reimbursement

The Abbot Public Library Board of Trustees on Aug. 5 approved an early-closing schedule for three holiday-adjacent evenings and authorized a staff travel reimbursement.
Director Kimberly Grad proposed closing the library on the evenings before Thanksgiving (Nov. 27), Christmas Eve (Dec. 23) and New Year’s Eve (Dec. 30). The board approved the early-closing plan by roll-call vote; Trustees Gary Amberik, John Williams, Jennifer Jewell, Deb Payson and Kathy Barker recorded Yes votes.
The board also approved a motion from staff member Jane Wolff to reimburse approximately $1,000 for her attendance at the New England Library Association conference in Portland, Maine, Oct. 20–24, 2024. The expense was approved to be funded from the Sorenson Fund; the same five trustees voted Yes on the motion.
Kim Grad told the board that two staff members will be on leave starting mid-August and outlined plans to shift circulation and reference desk duties to cover absences. The board recorded no additional conditions on the approvals.
The meeting opened at 6:07 p.m. at the Pleasant Street facility and adjourned at 7:02 p.m.
