Justine Miller, who identified herself as the wife of a township employee, told the council the workers "have waited long enough" and called 18 months without a contract "unacceptable." Council members said they share the frustration but that a small outstanding item required confirmation from the union.
Council President and other council members said they were optimistic the union would vote to ratify the outstanding term within days. The mayor said he would text the union president, Mr. Tucker, and council discussed holding a special meeting next week, provided notices and Sunshine Law requirements are met.
The motion to table was made, seconded and approved in a roll-call vote in which each present member voted "yes." Council members said the motion preserves the opportunity for prompt final approval if the union ratifies the agreement and the remaining technical item is resolved.
Next steps: Council said it would await confirmation from the union and post a special meeting if the ratification arrives in time; no substantive terms of the contract were disclosed to the public during the meeting because the resolution remains incomplete.
