Council hears several routine items including special event license update, surplus vehicle and probation contract

During its Dec. 2 work session the Demorest City Council covered a set of routine items. City Attorney Thomas Mitchell presented changes to Code section 6-19 to adjust the temporary special event license period and delegate approval authority to the city manager; he also introduced ordinance 6.19.1 to create a separate nonprofit temporary special event license to assist Piedmont’s request for nonprofit licensing.
City Manager Mark Musselwhite and Mike Jones discussed surplus property: a 2008 Ford SRW Super Duty (VIN#3783) assigned to fire/rescue has mechanical issues but can crank; Jones estimated an average sale price of about $2,925 and staff said they plan to bid the vehicle or list it on GovDeals pending council authorization.
Chief Chastain reported the annual probation contract with the Town of Alto was presented and the contract increased by $5; City Attorney Thomas Mitchell reviewed and approved the contract form. Councilman Shawn Allen moved, and Councilman Andrew Ferguson seconded, to adjourn to executive session to discuss personnel, real estate acquisition and litigation; the motion carried, the body reconvened and adjourned at 7:12 p.m.
