Town says Garin Point beach debris came from old seawall; final inspection on file

Board member Bob reported to the Board of Finance that follow-up from prior citizen comments found the beach debris after the storm was related to the old seawall, not the newly constructed wall. Bob said the new wall has deep footings—reported in discussion as about 20 feet—while the old wall had much shallower footings; the storm stripped material from the old structure onto the beach but the new wall itself was not the source of the hazardous debris, he said.
He reported that the work on Garin Point was inspected throughout the construction process and that a final inspection was completed in May; the inspection reports are pending as part of the final paperwork package. The recent repair work included revetment improvements (rock placement) to protect the wall and adjacent shoreline; members observed some sections now meet a 4-foot code threshold that had been cited earlier.
One member suggested the town attorney be asked whether any private-owner liability exists if the old and new walls interface in a way that produces damage; the board agreed to keep that question in mind but did not take formal action at the meeting.
