Madison Parish jury approves hires, facility survey, summer program and fills commission vacancy

At its April 13 meeting the Madison Parish Police Jury approved personnel hires, authorized an asbestos/lead survey of the old health unit, approved a summer student program, solicited contractor quotes for facility repairs, and appointed Clinton Wade Hargrave to the Board of Commissioners.
At its April 13, 2026 regular meeting in Tallulah the Madison Parish Police Jury approved several administrative and community items, including personnel hires, a facilities assessment, and an appointment to the parish Board of Commissioners.
Facilities assessment and repairs: Interim Mayor Lewis reported the City and Terracon Consultants entered an agreement to include the old health unit in site assessment work and to include an asbestos/lead survey. Jurors voted to permit the survey and authorized the president to sign necessary documents. Separately, engineers received authorization to solicit contractor quotes for replacement of flag poles and interior repairs.
Personnel and programs: The jury approved hiring two tractor drivers at $15.83 per hour, one truck driver at $21.21 per hour, and three laborers at $15.07 per hour after the superintendent’s recommendation; the motion passed by roll-call vote with all jurors voting yes. The jury also approved a summer program for students to run June 1–July 31 after a motion by Johnny Hughes and second by Dave Wilson.
Appointments and development items: Stanley Ogden moved and Johnny Hughes seconded appointing Clinton Wade Hargrave to fill a vacancy on the Madison Parish Board of Commissioners; the motion carried. RCH Engineering submitted plans for a proposed RV park on Highway 65 South; jurors said the item will return to the agenda after Fire Marshal approval.
Finance and public comment: The Secretary/Treasurer asked permission to pay outstanding invoices based on available funds; jurors approved paying invoices as funds allow. An employee accident was reported. Visitor Ms. Whitaker raised a concern about the number of containers the garbage truck was picking up, saying, "upon review of their contract it did not state a limited number." President Sanders said she would follow up with the contractor.
The meeting concluded with adoption of Resolution No. 2026-06 for Scott Airport (reported separately) and adjournment.
