At an Oct. 12 hearing and again in November, officials discussed dock safety, congestion, parking and proposed ordinance revisions. Harbor Committee members and residents urged caution, citing full parking, skiff congestion, and concerns that additional buyers would worsen daytime crowding. Harbor Committee members noted that prior recommendations advised against adding buyers to protect traffic and hoist access.
During a Nov. 9 meeting, Selectman John Robbins moved to issue two buying permits; the motion passed 3–2, prompting visible upset from audience members who said the matter should be returned to the Harbor Committee for further review. After public comment, a motion to stay the decision for a month to let the Harbor Committee address the issue failed 2–3.
Supporters of selling the permits said there is demand and some flexibility on the Pier for relocation of trailers and hoist adjustments. Opponents cited safety concerns, limited capacity and disagreement with the Harbor Committee’s recommendations.
The board recorded the vote and left the ordinance‑revision process ongoing; if formal code changes are proposed, they would return to Harbor Committee review and public notice.
