Marquette County Board adopts 2025 budget, sets $14.616 million tax levy

After a public hearing on Nov. 12, the Marquette County Board of Supervisors adopted the 2025 annual budget and set the 2024 tax levy. The amended Resolution 42-2024 set total appropriations at $28,720,305 with projected revenues of $13,493,416 and applied $610,228 from fund balance to reduce the levy; the remaining levy of $14,616,660 was approved on a roll call vote (Ayes 14; Noes 2).

The resolution’s fiscal summary included an anticipated $1,466,000 from county sales tax within the revenue line. During the meeting a motion to amend the budget increased the library allocation by $5,000, raising total appropriations and the levy accordingly; the amendment passed by roll call prior to final adoption.

Administrator Ron Barger and Baker Tilly auditor Andrea Jansen presented budget and audit-related information during the fall meetings; the board was also briefed on the county’s plan to create rollover accounts and add a line item for strategic planning in the 2025 budget. No additional mid-year tax increases were proposed. The board directed departments and committees to continue monitoring budget execution and report back to Executive & Finance as needed.

Resolution 42-2024 was adopted as amended; the levy and budget documents were recorded for public inspection and the budget detail document titled “2025 Annual Budget” was adopted with continuing appropriations designated as non-lapsing.
