Director outlines children’s room repairs, staff evaluations and summer program turnout

Library Director Morgan Olson updated trustees on facilities, staffing and programs at the July 25 meeting.
Olson reported that a new contractor will complete repairs and renovations in the Children’s room, with work expected to begin Aug. 19. Custom shelving end caps arrived incorrectly and are pending replacement, but Olson said the room can open once the other repairs are finished. Orders for replacement books and resources have been placed on hold until August.
On staffing, Olson said Laura Elliott completed training in collection management and an ALA course on collection assessment. Elliott plans to reduce hours when school resumes; Olson expects remaining staff coverage will meet service needs. Employee self-evaluations and one-on-one reviews will begin in August, with raises based on performance; Olson will submit a self-evaluation and gather anonymous staff feedback. The board discussed developing trustee and board-evaluation processes as well.
Olson also reported the summer reading program went well, with roughly 20 regular participants at adult sessions and end-of-summer parties scheduled for the upcoming weekend.
Trustees did not record further action on facilities orders or program budget changes; follow-up on contractor scheduling and book orders is expected in August.
