At the Dec. 3 meeting Mayor Glen E. Warren presented a proclamation honoring Council member and Assistant Fire Chief Josh Sinard for completing the Georgia Smoke Diver Program; the mayor declared Dec. 3, 2024 "Josh Sinard Day" and the board and audience applauded.
The minutes also record that Officer Steve Arnold received a letter of honor for using an AED in March to restore a pulse to an unconscious man; the minutes state the AEDs were purchased with grant funds and credited Officer Arnold’s actions with saving the patient’s life.
On a motion by Mr. Sinard with a second from Mrs. Walker, the council agreed to name the Lions Field football field the Sanders‑Cate Field pending review of any existing agreement; the motion carried. Recreation director Reid reported that football-field grading is on schedule, Pine Fest drew nearly 3,000 attendees who stayed about 5 percent longer than previous events, a new part for the splash pad has worked well but the splash pad needs major updates, and he is seeking donors for a new scoreboard.
The council also suspended mattress and box-spring pickup until April 2025 while it considers the best approach; new landfill fees effective Jan. 1, 2025 were reported ($2 per tire; $10 per mattress/box spring set). The council adjourned at 8:03 p.m.
Next steps: staff will confirm any naming agreement for Sanders‑Cate Field, pursue donor contacts for the scoreboard, and schedule follow-up on splash-pad capital needs.
