White Pine Police Chief Cotter told the town council at its Sept. 3 meeting that the department has received a THSO grant of $50,000 and that a K‑9 vehicle should be completed and returned in about three weeks for outfitting.
Chief Cotter said other department vehicles have been stripped in preparation for outfitting. Council also approved hiring two full‑time officers—Chris Edmonds and Garrett English—by unanimous vote. The department is continuing grant work and vehicle preparations in advance of bringing the K‑9 team fully online.
Chief Cotter also informed the council of a recent death affecting the department. He said Jeremy Sutton has died; Sutton’s funeral will be held at Lakeway Christian Academy and a procession will move through town. Chief Cotter said Sutton’s partner remains hospitalized and asked the council to keep them in their thoughts.
No operational changes or budgetary amendments beyond the grant acceptance were recorded in the transcript; the council’s personnel action to hire officers was approved during the meeting.
