Deep River announces Roots of Remembrance rededication, Memorial Day parades and mooring application access
Summary
Selectmen reported that mooring applications are now available on the Deep River website, trees were replaced for a Roots of Remembrance rededication on May 22 (8:00 AM) with a veterans breakfast at 7:00 AM, and Memorial Day parades are scheduled for May 24 and May 25. The board also noted flag installations, possible memorial banners funded through a grant, and that the permitting system is live.
At the May 4 meeting First Selectman Carol Jones and the Board of Selectmen provided several community updates.
Harbor services: Selectmen announced that mooring applications are now available online on the Deep River website and that members of the public can contact the Harbor Master via a new email address or through the Selectmen’s office.
Roots of Remembrance and veterans events: Jones reported that trees at Valley were replaced and that fundraising continues. A rededication ceremony is scheduled for May 22 at 8:00 AM, with a veterans breakfast at 7:00 AM hosted by students and teachers; the rain date is May 21. Jones thanked veteran Richard Naggot and three high school students for their work on the committee.
Memorial Day: The board announced Memorial Day events: the Winthrop Parade on May 24 at 1:00 PM and the Downtown Deep River Parade on May 25 at 9:00 AM. Portable facilities and seating will be provided.
Town updates: Jones said flags have been installed on Main Street and in the Winthrop section and thanked the Gates family for donating flags and brackets. The board discussed memorial banners (initially to feature Deep River veterans) with brackets paid for by the town and banners funded through EDC via Main Street Accelerator Grant money. Jones also noted that the town permitting system is now live for public access and reminded listeners that a Region 4 referendum is scheduled for May 5 (12:00–8:00 PM).
