Library reports surge in reading program participation and shifts in collection sourcing

The board heard a Director’s Report detailing program successes and operational changes. The director reported that DVD usage continues to rise and recommended considering further investment in the DVD collection. Staff are sourcing adult books through Amazon following the closure of Baker & Taylor.
Library staff are co-sponsoring a troubadour program with the Deep River Historical Society as part of the town’s 250th anniversary and partnering with Killingworth Library on an American Revolution historical program. Banners sponsored through the CT River Museum will be displayed two weeks at each location.
The CT Passport to Reading program was described as the library’s biggest program to date, with more than 300 participants. Three staff attended the Connecticut Library Association conference. Following the dissolution of the Friends of the Library, the director created a Structured Imprest petty cash system: donations will be deposited monthly into the Liberty checking account, and two $50 funds will be maintained (a public service change fund and an operational petty cash fund) for transparency and operational needs.
