Parks director outlines summer camps, concerts, clinics and community programs

Director Cailey Anderson reported the Parks & Recreation Commission’s summer schedule May 13, including a Coastal Chargers clinic request for Devitt Field (6/6/26) with a $250 refundable deposit, a June 11 bluegrass concert, a June 29 summer camp start, hiking and pickleball sessions, and fishing-derby revenue of $384 from 45 participants.
Cailey Anderson, Deep River parks director, presented the department’s summer programming and event schedule at the commission’s May 13 meeting.
Anderson told the commission that the Coastal Chargers requested use of Devitt Field for a football clinic on June 6, 2026, 2–5 p.m.; staff noted a refundable security deposit of $250 and that no additional fees would apply unless the Chargers sought a more permanent arrangement requiring field lining or extra maintenance. Anderson also reported a Town Bluegrass Concert (Don Sampson — Grass Routes) scheduled for June 11 at Devitt Field.
On youth programming, Anderson said all summer camp staff had been hired and registrations were steadily increasing; a June 29 start date is planned, contingent on the camp director’s availability and access to DRES. She listed Spring Hiking Session 2 (Thursdays 5/28, 6/4, 6/11 and 6/25), advised that before/after school registration opens June 1, and reported pickleball moving from an indoor session into outdoor play in July and August. The department will post staff names on Facebook to boost engagement.
The commission also reviewed the recent Fishing Derby, which generated $384 in revenue from registration and on-site sales and attracted 45 participants; partners thanked in the minutes included Adam’s, Ted’s Bait & Tackle, SX Sportsman’s and Tony Camire. The summer concert schedule was set and food vendors were confirmed; the Last Day of School Bash will involve music, Deep River Ice and the PTO.
Anderson listed other offerings — Vale Soccer Camp, Marina Rossi’s Zumba class, a DEEP CARES one-day program on August 12 (with bus and chaperone fees), yoga, and Tai Chi (April–November at Town Landing) — and noted hiring was ongoing for program coordinators and staff.
