Deep River committee reports steady pantry use, approves purchase of cart for donations

The Town of Deep River Community Health Committee on May 12 reviewed food assistance activity and approved a small equipment purchase to ease operations.
Faith, a staff member referenced in committee reports, said the food pantry averaged 26 visits each Thursday in April and noted staff are assisting a recently unhoused person in town. Committee members discussed outcomes of the recent Post Office food drive: distribution of collection cards was inconsistent but the drive collected 571 pounds of food. Committee member Nancy McGee said she will send a thank-you card to the Deep River Post Office.
Committee member Betsy Scholfield moved to purchase a wagon/cart to help move food donations; Lauren Nichols seconded and the motion passed unanimously. The committee also noted outreach and fundraising plans, including Round Up week at Adams Hometown Market from May 31 to June 6; Secretary Emily Chase will prepare and laminate eight informational copies for placement above the registers.
The meeting concluded with scheduling the next committee meeting for June 9, 2026 and adjourning at 8:07 p.m.
