Green Bank analysis flags Deep River Elementary as leading candidate for municipal solar

Members of the Deep River SustainableCT Committee reported that a Solar MAP+ satellite analysis and a follow-up meeting with Green Bank identified likely municipal candidates for new solar installations.
Sara and Jeff told the committee that Green Bank described multiple program options (financing, ownership, maintenance) and that the analysis singled out Deep River Elementary School as financially attractive under a limited-time "school carveout" incentive. Sara said she is trying to schedule time with the BOS to review the opportunity. The committee noted Region 4 buildings already have rooftop solar and that parking-lot canopy solar could qualify for the program but is likely constrained by the time needed to obtain stakeholder approvals. Committee members also said most other town buildings are too small to generate enough energy to meet Green Bank program thresholds.
Sara additionally reported she has been compiling Eversource account numbers and utility types (gas, oil) for town buildings to support benchmarking and project planning. The committee also reviewed available points for a Climate Leader application to SustainableCT and noted that the town’s recently updated Plan of Conservation and Development (POCD) documents some completed and planned infrastructure projects that can serve as evidence for the application. Committee members brainstormed additional projects to pursue to strengthen the submission.
