Hart Board elects Schaner president, approves millage and Early Middle College partnership

The Hart Board of Education on Jan. 26 elected Jeff Schaner president and completed its slate of officers while approving a series of routine business items and agreements.
In an organizational vote, Kayla Dennert nominated Jeff Schaner for president; Schaner accepted and was elected on a 7–0 vote. The board then elected Steve Riley vice president, Andy Carter secretary and Kayla Dennert treasurer, each by unanimous votes after nominations and acceptance.
The board approved procedural designations required by the Open Meetings Act, allowing the Board Secretary to delegate public-notice posting to Executive Assistant Kelli Campagna and authorizing the President, Secretary and Treasurer to sign checks, contracts and other district business when needed.
Members also approved a 2026 annual retainer agreement with Thrun Law Firm, P.C. at a fee of $2,500 and voted to adopt the district's Legal Reference Note as presented. The consent agenda — including minutes from the Dec. 15, 2025 meeting and payment of bills — passed on unanimous votes.
The board accepted retirements from Donis Albus, Spitler Elementary social worker, and Susan Hall, HHS English teacher, and approved the non-homestead millage "as presented." The board also passed an Early Middle College resolution with West Shore Community College.
The meeting closed with approval of the final posting for the superintendent search and a unanimous motion to adjourn at 7:19 P.M.
