Capital Budget Committee approves $900,000 transfer for roads and sidewalks

The Capital Budget Committee voted unanimously to transfer $900,000 from the Roads and Sidewalks Stabilization Fund to the general fund to pay for roads and sidewalk work planned for the current year. Brian Joyce, director of public works, told the committee the DPW identified the roads scheduled for paving and listed several sidewalks that would be completed either this fall or the next year depending on permitting, design and engineering timelines.
The committee moved quickly after the presentation. Committee member Susan Franklin moved to approve the $900,000 transfer and Rob Kasameyer seconded; a roll-call vote recorded five ayes and the motion carried.
The appropriation is intended to be combined with an anticipated $350,000 from the state Chapter 90 Fund, which Mr. Joyce said would bring the total funding for paving and sidewalks to about $1.25 million. The DPW warned that the timing of sidewalk work may shift based on permitting and design schedules. The committee did not alter the scope of the projects identified by DPW during the meeting.
The committee’s approval completes its warrant review and will be reflected in the warrant for the next town process.
