Board of Health approves fire station renovation plans and begins public water supply application process

The Carlisle Board of Health voted unanimously on March 11 to accept renovation plans for the town fire station and to begin the application process for a public water supply permit.

Rob Frado, who reviewed the plans, told the board that he had performed a second review and that the design had addressed his earlier concerns, with only "a couple of trivial revisions remaining to be completed," calling it "a strong design." Board members discussed whether the building’s water should be classified as a public water supply. Members said permitting timelines and the risk of triggering public-supply requirements later weighed in favor of starting the permit process now.

David Erickson moved to accept the plans on the condition that the town start the public water supply application and address Frado’s latest comments; Will Proctor seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously among the members recorded as present: Patrick Collins (chair), David Erickson and Will Proctor.

The minutes note the board’s rationale that the application process for a public water supply can take close to a year and that beginning the process now would reduce the chance that project changes later would force a more difficult retrofit or additional restrictions. The board did not specify a timeline for filing the permit application beyond starting the process and completing the remaining revisions.
