Bolton Fire Commission reviews recent calls, strategic plan concerns and approves 2026 meeting dates

At its Dec. 15, 2025 meeting, the Bolton Fire Commission heard a report of 33 calls since the prior meeting including a debris fire on Lookout Landing, discussed progress and timing for a multi-year strategic plan and approved its 2026 meeting schedule. The commission adjourned at 7:17 p.m.
The Bolton Fire Commission convened Dec. 15, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. at the Bolton Fire House with Chairman John Morianos presiding. Commissioners Robert Langton and Liz Malone were present in person; Chris Moquin and Danny Moquin participated via Zoom. Chief Dixon and Deputy Chief Matthew Perreira attended remotely.
Chief Dixon reported the department handled 33 calls since the last meeting. He said an Amazon Flex driver discovered a debris fire at a garage on Lookout Landing about 5:10 a.m.; the BVFD responded and extinguished the fire while six occupants were sleeping. Dixon also reported mutual aid responses to Andover and Hebron for structure fires, multiple EMS calls, and a motor-vehicle accident at AllTown. He told commissioners there have been no changes in the budget process and reminded the commission the budget is due to the Board of Selectmen on Dec. 22, 2025. On training, Dixon said one member is completing Firefighter I training with a January test and another member is enrolled in an EMT class in Lebanon.
The Fire Marshal’s section noted attendance at a Capital Region Fire Marshals Association meeting in Wethersfield and a Connecticut Fire Marshals Association seminar in Berlin. Deputy Fire Marshal Quish is investigating the Lookout Landing incident, and the office said entries for the state poster contest are on display. Recent inspections included a CO check at D&D, a holiday inspection at Dollar General, and a scheduled inspection at Villa Louisa on Dec. 18, 2025. Chief Dixon commended Deputy Fire Marshal Quish for the response work, and the minutes note that Pete Morra assisted in getting six family members out of the house safely.
In old business, commission member Robert Langton asked about the department’s direction for spring and expressed concern about the time needed to complete the strategic plan that Chief Dixon previously proposed to the Board of Selectmen; Langton cited low daytime attendance for calls as an ongoing concern. Janet K. Assard, the board clerk, provided an update on the Wreaths Across America ceremony held Dec. 13, 2025 at Bolton Center Cemetery and Quarryville Cemetery, thanked sponsors and volunteers, and said the event will be held again on Dec. 12, 2026.
On new business, commissioners moved to approve the listed 2026 meeting dates (motion recorded RL/EM). The minutes list meeting dates for each month (fourth Monday unless noted) and indicate no meeting in August. The commission set its next regular meeting for Monday, Jan. 26, 2026, and a motion to adjourn passed; the meeting ended at 7:17 p.m., recorded as voice unanimous.
