The Presque Isle City Council on July 1 adopted a proclamation recognizing July as Parks and Recreation Month. Recreation Director Steve Sampson presented the proclamation and invited local participants—youth Serge Clayton and Henry Clayton and community member Jeff Bridal—to describe how rec programs benefit them.
Sampson framed the value of parks and recreation as promoting "health and wellness, improving the physical and mental health of people who live near parks," and said programming supports youth development and community quality of life. Youth speakers described participating in skiing, snowboarding, track and field, soccer and other activities; an older participant said recreational music and programs provide social engagement for seniors.
A councilor moved to adopt the proclamation and the council approved it unanimously. Council members praised the rec programs and encouraged continued community support for parks and recreation services.
