The Charlemont Select Board voted Dec. 16 to set highway employee Brandon Root’s pay rate at $23 per hour after hearing a recommendation from Highway Superintendent Scott Sullivan.
Valentine Reid moved to set Brandon Root’s pay at $23 an hour and to commit the board to further refining Charlemont’s human resources practices, including pay scales and performance reviews; Kim Blakeslee seconded the motion and the board approved it unanimously.
Board members discussed the need for a townwide pay scale and performance review process to standardize compensation decisions and make salaries more competitive. Administrator Sarah Reynolds and the board agreed to pursue further refinement of HR practices and to consider broader wage guidance for municipal positions.
