Select Board signs $25,000 DESE earmark to supplement sustainability study

The Charlemont Select Board on Dec. 16 approved a FY25 earmark application to the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) for $25,000 to supplement the cost of a sustainability study.
Martha Therber reported that Natalie Blais asked the School Committee to seek the $25,000 earmark to cover remaining costs of a sustainability study being conducted by Berk 12. Therber said the study originally cost about $283,000 and was reduced to $275,000, and that a previous state grant covered roughly $250,000 of the total.
Valentine Reid moved that the board approve and sign the DESE FY25 $25,000 earmark; Kim Blakeslee seconded the motion and the Select Board approved it unanimously. Administrator Sarah Reynolds said she would complete the online filing for the earmark.
The board reviewed a standard contract form related to the earmark as part of the meeting documents.
