City Manager Charlie Funderburk told council that Tega Cay activated a joint Emergency Operations Center for Winter Storm Fern and ran the center for 28 hours, citing about 100 man-hours of preparatory meetings and additional staffing allocations across departments.
Funderburk outlined staffing commitments during the event: Public Works employees split into two 12-hour shifts over 48 hours; TCUD staffed four employees plus two supervisors for 48 hours; TCPD provided additional staffing and command staff for 36 hours; and TCFD provided additional staffing and command staff for 48 hours. He thanked residents for staying off roadways, which staff said allowed first responders to operate safely.
He encouraged residents to test smoke and carbon-monoxide alarms and noted that the city's new Ladder 1 has arrived and is awaiting delayed equipment while crews complete training; a rescheduled Ladder 1 pushing-in ceremony will be announced. Funderburk also noted Firehouse Stories is scheduled for the coming Saturday, weather permitting, with a potential Facebook Live fallback.
On other administrative items, Funderburk announced new hires (permit clerk Vickie Isenhour and Recreation Programmer Ryan Dudney), the posting of a draft Comprehensive Plan with a joint public hearing scheduled for February, turf installation completion at Catawba Park, and upcoming community events including Badges and Baristas (Feb. 2) and the Polar Plunge (Feb. 7).
The Police Department's December statistics were presented: 403 calls for service, 33 incident reports, 2,665 property checks, 597 traffic stops, 16 vehicle collisions, 10 custodial arrests and three DUI arrests; average response time was reported as 3 minutes, 49 seconds.
