President Dave Hornbacher told the council Jan. 6 that the Hillman Fire Department had five recent runs. He said one firefighter resigned and the department hired a replacement. Hornbacher reported the department received a $5,000 grant from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources to purchase fire gear.
On emergency medical services, Hornbacher said EMS recorded 67 runs. The village has hired a part‑time emergency medical technician but has not received applications for a full‑time paramedic position; he also said the village has increased ambulance run rates.
Council members did not take separate action on staffing or rates at the Jan. 6 meeting; the reports were presented as operational updates and will inform personnel and budget discussions going forward.
