Hillman schedules zoning-ordinance review, Master Plan meetings and planning-grant follow-up

Council and staff said they will meet with NEMCOG to review updated zoning-ordinance chapters, pursue Master Plan meetings that will include mini and tiny homes, and ensure receipt of a $50,000 planning grant.
Village Manager Dave Post told the council on Jan. 6 that he, Matt Smith and Ron Floer will meet with Denise Cline of the Northeast Michigan Council of Governments (NEMCOG) to review updated chapters of the village zoning ordinance.
Post said Master Plan meetings will begin soon and that the planning agenda will include consideration of mini and tiny homes. He also said he will prepare the annual Planning Commission report and will meet with NEMCOG to confirm the village can collect a $50,000 planning grant tied to the planning work.
In a separate manager’s report dated Jan. 20, Post said the Michigan Municipal League (MML) has requested approval of property appraisals; he also noted a 2015 permit for adding campsites is being considered for closeout after eleven years. The manager asked the council to set budget meetings and to note possible insurance-cost effects from increased property valuations.
The council did not take final action on zoning changes at the Jan. 6 meeting; Post and NEMCOG will return with ordinance text and any recommended Master Plan amendments for future council consideration.
