Deerfield Historical Commission narrows focus for Form B surveys and schedules follow-ups

Commission members agreed to concentrate Form B research on North Main Street from the Town Common to the Monument and assigned drafting and file-research tasks. The meeting also covered administrative items including a deferred clerk's report, no current expenditures, distribution of a draft Archaeological Accountability Policy, and a May 11 meeting date.
At the March 9 meeting the Deerfield Historical Commission decided to focus its Form B research on properties along North Main Street from the Town Common up to the Monument as the basis for a proposed "North Main Street walking tour."
Jason Clarke reported that after conversations with the Town Administrator and representatives from historic Northampton the Commission would prioritize that corridor rather than attempting to designate all possible properties across town. Clarke said he will draft Form B survey forms for review by Peter Thomas; Henrietta Kocot, Bonita Conlon and Jennie McAvoy will search the Commission's files for records of prior Form B submissions.
On administrative matters, the clerk's report (minutes of Feb. 9, 2026) was deferred to the next meeting. The Commission noted that no funds have been expended so far this fiscal year. A draft Archaeological Accountability Policy was distributed to members for review and will be discussed at the next meeting. Chair Ben Bensen said he will attend a Connecting Community Initiatives Zoom meeting on March 12 and will check with the Town Clerk about renewing Bonita Conlon's appointment to the Commission.
The Commission set its next meeting for May 11, 2026 and voted to adjourn at 6:07 p.m.
