Dr. Leon, a member of the review committee, said he appreciated that “they have the foresight to do that,” and that the firm planned for separate elementary and middle‑school spaces, shared community areas and access‑control measures as part of the design phase.
The board was given a bound submission packet and directed to tabs including the mandatory items and a project work plan. Officials outlined a tentative schedule: procurement of the design professional in June 2026, PSFA contract approval by late July, a design phase beginning in August 2026 lasting about a year, a construction bidding period in September–November 2027, contractor selection in November–December 2027 and construction expected to begin in January 2028.
Board members asked several follow‑up questions about the existing gymnasium, including whether it could be retained during construction and how long a rebuilt gym would take. Presenters said demolition sequencing depends on final site placement; keeping the existing gym would reduce allowable square footage for the new design and any renovations would be funded by the district rather than the RFP project budget.
A motion to award the RFP to Decker was moved and seconded; a roll‑call vote recorded affirmative votes from Board member Dennis, Mrs. Elie Martinez Gonzalez, Board secretary Dr. Joseph Zer, Dr. Kimberly and Board President Paul Gonzalez. The motion passed and the board approved awarding the design contract to Decker. Board President Gonzalez said he would ask Decker to give a presentation to the board the following day.
