Van Buren County approves budget amendments, surplus declarations, donation and speed‑limit reduction

Road Superintendent Randy Oakes requested a $2,500 donation to the Senior Companion Program for gas; the commission approved the donation on a unanimous roll-call vote. Oakes also presented a resident petition to reduce the speed limit on Bald Knob Mountain Road; William Maxwell moved and Mickey Robinson seconded reducing the limit from 45 mph to 35 mph, and the motion passed by voice vote.
Finally, the commission authorized up to $15,000 for vehicle purchases for maintenance and the litter grant program on a unanimous roll-call vote. The meeting concluded with adoption of a proclamation for Red Ribbon Week (Oct. 23–31) and adjournment at 7:47 p.m.
