Committee members reported projected annual revenue of $237,400 tied to the purchase and described a payment plan that would draw three $150,000 payments from the General Fund (Nov. 2016, Jan. 2017, Mar. 2017) and one $150,000 payment from Solid Waste funds (June 2017), with Solid Waste repaying the General Fund $75,000 per year over six years.
Commission discussion centered on uncertainty created by an announced state demolition and rebuild of the hotel at Fall Creek Falls State Park. Rip Van Winkle said the park project’s downtime could reduce county tax receipts and local employment tied to the hotel, a factor commissioners said needed further study. After discussion, Van Winkle moved and Lesa Bouldin seconded a motion to table the county’s consideration of the BDS purchase until the next county meeting and to have Committee A meet with Dan and Diane Goney to review details; the motion passed by voice vote.
The tabling means the commission postponed any final approval of the purchase and its planned financing schedule. Committee A had voted previously to present the purchase to the full commission; Committee B had also recommended the purchase at its Sept. 26 meeting with one committee abstention. The commission asked staff and committee members to gather more information, including the potential fiscal impacts of the state park project, before resuming consideration.
