The superintendent of Milpitas Unified gave a brief update on summer learning programs at district sites, saying students have been engaged in hands-on projects during the first days of summer sessions.
She described elementary activities at Bernett Rose and work at Melpedus High School in Rancho, where Principal Ryan Starts is leading summer instruction at the Rose site. Examples included pattern- and fractal-related projects, circuit and insulation experiments, and ultraviolet-ray prototype testing — students even crafted sunglasses to compare UV effects.
The superintendent thanked Dr. Jackie Veliger, the district director of elementary, and said the district website now includes a new menu of summer learning options for families to review. She framed the summertime offerings as an extension of learning and as opportunities for students to practice collaboration and applied skills.
The remarks were a brief snapshot; the superintendent closed this portion of her presentation after noting the website resources.
