Maynard Select Board approves event permits, issues retiree proclamation and appoints cultural council member

The Maynard Select Board on May 19 approved multiple routine items and permits, issued two proclamations including one honoring a retiring firefighter, and appointed a new member to the town’s Cultural Council.
The board voted to approve the consent agenda (items A–F), with the exception of a band date that was pulled for correction. The consent package included temporary use-of-town-property permits and liquor-license items; the board moved and approved the package by roll call.
The board read and approved a proclamation recognizing Sienna Hesba for earning the Girl Scout Gold Award; members noted a recognition event scheduled for June 1 at Fowler Middle School. The board then unanimously approved a proclamation honoring Firefighter Patrick A. Hankey for roughly 23–24 years of service to the Maynard Fire Department. The chair read the proclamation and extended thanks: "Congratulations and thank you for your service," the chair said during the presentation.
The board approved a temporary extension of premises to allow outdoor dining for Family Delicatessen at 129 Main Street, contingent on proof of insurance and compliance with the select board’s policy and the plans incorporated into the decision. The board also approved a request from the Maynard Business Alliance to hold free movie nights and teen music in Memorial Park on June 26, July 24 and August 28, 2026, subject to coordination with DPW on electricity and trash management and compliance with applicable public-health and safety guidance. Town staff noted the movie nights are developing events and will require applicant follow-up on logistics; an applicant representative (Ms. Woodburn) discussed coordination needs with staff.
The board appointed Elizabeth Price to the Cultural Council after noting endorsement from the council chair (who was not present). The appointment was approved and the board authorized the use of digital signatures to finalize the paperwork.
Administratively, members accepted a set of correspondences (art installation, rail-trail bench requests, permit renewals and telecommunications franchise notices), approved minutes from March 3 and March 17, and heard the town administrator’s report on recent town meeting and library repairs. One member requested that the promenade item return on a future agenda for further legal review.
The meeting concluded after final member reports and a roll-call vote on remaining motions. The board took no executive-session action at this meeting.
