The Sheffield Select Board handled a slate of routine and administrative items at its Nov. 3 meeting, approving meeting minutes, adopting the 2026 license fee schedule and taking a series of personnel and support actions.
On votes: the board approved minutes for Oct. 6, 16 and 20; accepted previously authorized short‑term borrowing connected to the highway garage purchase; and voted to accept the 2026 municipal and Board of Health license fees after a clarification from Pat Leavine that a farm‑stand permit covers sales at the Sheffield farmers market but not at other temporary food events.
Appointments and personnel: the board appointed Charles Cohen as constable for a one‑year term and accepted the resignation of highway department employee Donald Peek, voting to send him a letter of thanks. The board also voted to approve a letter of support for the South County Transit Grant Program to support local transportation services.
Items deferred: members discussed but did not approve a Stafford Tree Service quote ($9,675) to remove several trees at Ashley Falls green; the board asked staff to collect additional cost and disposal details and to consider highway department assistance before returning the item. The board also tabled a draft letter that would have authorized the zoning enforcement officer and the ZBA chair to propose multifamily housing bylaw changes pending coordination with the planning board to avoid overlapping efforts.
Community announcements: board members noted a successful Trunk or Treat, confirmed town hall will be closed the week of Dec. 22 as a staff appreciation measure, and heard public comment from Julie Hanum of the Sheffield Farmers Market about two upcoming winter markets and a SNAP match program.
