Select Board approves Verizon conduit work, appoints board members and trainers; moves to executive session

At its Oct. 20 meeting the Sheffield Select Board recorded a series of procedural actions and appointments.

Verizon: The board heard a public hearing from Verizon on a proposal to install underground conduits and a new handhole at the Bowwow and Limekilm roads intersection and voted to accept the installation application. Board discussion clarified that only one pole would remain in place and that the work is largely underground; no named vote tally was recorded in the public minutes.

Appointments: The board announced a constable nominee (Charles Cullen) and said the appointment process requires an announcement followed by a formal appointment at the next meeting in two weeks. The board moved and voted to appoint Raineia Markham to the Board of Health. The board also appointed trainers for an MBI-funded digital-equity program—Renee Wood, Carlos (name pronounced in meeting), and Jessica Bangs—with some classes to be offered in Spanish; the grant will fund those positions.

Executive session: The board voted to move into an executive session to discuss litigation strategy concerning host-community agreements; the chair recorded the roll-call ‘I’ votes for Bob Gilmer, Patrick Silk and Lee Nutella, and the public portion of the meeting was adjourned.
