Select Board members on Oct. 20 discussed pursuing a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to support housing rehabilitation and the possible construction of accessory dwelling units (ADUs) in Sheffield.
Board members said the town is considering an application of roughly $800,000 that could be split between home rehabs and the creation of up to three ADUs under new state rules aimed at expanding housing supply. If the grant is awarded, the town plans a local application process to allocate funds and will post details on the town website and in local media.
The board described ADUs as small additional rental units on existing properties that can increase housing availability, and noted some rehab work would also be eligible under the proposal. No formal award has been made and the board said it will provide more information once the grant decision is known.
