The Sheffield Select Board presented new plans and renderings for a proposed highway garage and said the town will hold information sessions and a special town meeting, likely in mid-November, to consider the project. Materials and renderings will be posted in public locations including the library and senior center so residents can review them in advance.
Board members said a previously purchased building and other design choices had reduced projected costs compared with similar projects in other communities and that the town still expects a multi-step process before construction would begin. The board discussed timing for posting materials with the Sheffield Times and other distribution options for the warrant and project description.
No formal approval of funding occurred at the Oct. 6 meeting; board members said they expect additional information sessions between now and the special town meeting. The board noted audits are underway to support potential borrowing and that the town's favorable recent audit review is useful when seeking financing.
