At its Feb. 3, 2026 regular meeting the Town of Port Barre council heard reports from the police department, public works and recreation staff, and discussed several community concerns raised by council members and a resident.
Chief Boudreaux presented the police department’s monthly activity report and told the council that surveillance cameras are being placed throughout the town. Mayor John P. Ardoin provided a public works update in Superintendent Greg Leger’s absence, saying the upgrade at the town’s water distribution site is about 98% complete and that replacement of stop signs around town is underway. Recreation Director Kyla (full name not given in the transcript) provided an update on the youth league’s activities.
The council accepted all financial and departmental reports by unanimous motion, moved by Councilmember Susie Hebert and seconded by Sammy W. Hardy II.
During general discussion the Mayor and council raised infrastructure and nuisance items: a sidewalk project, trash and debris on private properties, lighting at the Saizan Street ball field, the sign in front of Town Hall, and the possibility of incorporating Highway 190 up to the caution light. A resident addressed the Mayor, council and Chief of Police to complain about “constant barking of dogs” across the street from her home; the minutes record the complaint but do not show an on-the-record resolution.
No ordinance, budget allocation or follow-up deadline was specified in the minutes for the items discussed.
