The Denison City Council approved several financial and administrative items at its May 6 meeting.
Police Chief Trejo reported two grants: a Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau grant for $15,900 (to fund wages, a new speed trailer and impaired-driver simulator goggles) and an Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant for $45,000 (for a virtual simulator). The council approved consent-agenda items including State of Iowa GAX Claim #1 for Destination Iowa reimbursement in the amount of $857,363.35.
Council approved renewal of The Standard benefits policy for one year (motion by Zupp-Smith, seconded by Logan) and approved the Boyer Fields sublease agreement after review by Denison Municipal Utilities, the city attorney and insurance (motion by Granzen, seconded by Curnyn). The council also approved the Title Sponsor Rights Agreement with Monogram Food Solutions, LLC and authorized the Iowa Economic Development Authority to complete the State of Iowa Community Catalyst Grant application; the city manager and Donna Reed Foundation will prepare a development agreement if the grant is awarded.
Resolution #2025-21, amending the FY 2024–2025 budget, was introduced and approved (motion by Zupp-Smith, seconded by Curnyn). The council also approved a tax abatement for 811 Wild Rose Drive earlier in the meeting.
