The Denison City Council on May 20 adopted the first reading of an ordinance amending Chapter 68 of the City Code concerning parking regulations and introduced a resolution to set a public hearing on Budget Amendment #3.
By unanimous vote, the council approved the ordinance’s first reading. Council also approved Resolution #2025-26 to set a public hearing on Budget Amendment #3 for June 9, 2025, at 12:00 p.m.
City Manager Garcia told the council that a new state law passed on the same day addresses allowable days for consumer fireworks and references section 727.2. Garcia said the statute "states 'a city council may by ordinance or resolution prohibit or limit the use of consumer fireworks, display firework, or novelties, as described in section 727.2, on any other day than July 3, July 4, and December 31 in accordance with section 727.2, subsection 4.'" The council asked staff to update the local fireworks ordinance to reflect the state change while retaining the city’s existing restrictions for other days.
