Denison council approves phone services switch for Law Enforcement Center; communication policies review set for July

The council approved switching LEC phone services to Western Iowa Networks after outage reviews and set a deadline for completion and Dropbox upload of revised Communication Center policies by July 1 and June 25 respectively.
The Denison City Council voted unanimously on May 20 to accept a quote from Western Iowa Networks to provide phone services for the Law Enforcement Center following an outage review presented by Rod Bradley of Tech Support Services.
Bradley reviewed outage issues at the Law Enforcement Center; the Sheriff’s Department had already accepted the quote. Council members said the change is expected to reduce costs. The motion to approve the quote was made by Zupp-Smith and seconded by Logan and carried unanimously.
Separately, Police Chief Trejo reported that he and Dispatcher Howland have reviewed approximately 100 pages of Communication Center policies. Trejo said he will convert the policies into an electronic document and add items such as grain bin removal. The council requested the policies be maintained in a shareable, working document and set a target to complete the review by July 1, with the final version uploaded to Dropbox by June 25 at 12:00 p.m.
The council did not record public comment on either item.
