Denison City Council holds closed session on litigation strategy, returns with no action

Mayor Pamela Soseman noted at roll call that Council members Curnyn, Zupp-Smith and Logan were present (Logan via Zoom); Council members Miller and Granzen were initially absent. Council member Granzen arrived at 12:31 p.m. while the meeting was in progress.
The council returned to open session at 12:45 p.m. on a motion by Council member Zupp-Smith, seconded by Council member Granzen; that motion also carried unanimously. The minutes state that no action was taken during the closed session. The special meeting was adjourned at 12:45 p.m., and the record was attested by City Clerk Jodie Flaherty.
The closed-session citation, Iowa Code 21.5(1)(c), permits a governmental body to meet privately to discuss strategy with counsel in matters that are presently in litigation or where litigation is imminent when public disclosure would likely prejudice the governmental body's position.
