Wright County board approves parks grant support, ballot-board appointments and a lake improvement district

At its Feb. 3 meeting the Wright County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved several resolutions covering parks grants, election administration and local water-resources organization.
The board adopted resolution 2611 supporting an application to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources for an Outdoor Recreation Grant to fund improvements at Monaceipi Park and work at BB Lake, including ADA access improvements, playground replacement, trail connections, parking and replacement restrooms. County staff said capital-improvement plan funds will provide the required local match and noted the DNR program's funding had increased "from a quarter million to $350,000." The motion to adopt resolution 2611 was moved by Commissioner Dietrich and seconded by Commissioner Holland and passed by unanimous vote.
The board also adopted resolution 2612 to establish absentee and mail ballot boards for the 2627 election cycle and to include county election staff as board members, citing state law requirements for ballot-board formation. Commissioner Holland moved and Commissioner Moina seconded the resolution; it passed unanimously.
Commissioners approved resolution 2613 to create the Buffalo Deer, Goose and Mink Lake Improvement District. Staff said the petitioners intentionally requested the district be formed without taxing authority so organizers could pursue grants and accept donations; if they later seek taxing authority they must restart the petition process and hold another public hearing. Commissioner Dietrich moved to adopt the resolution and Commissioner Moina seconded; the motion passed unanimously.
The board also set a public hearing on March 3 at 9:30 a.m. for the county's five-year local-option sales tax transportation project list. Other routine items approved included January workshop minutes (which covered quarterly AERS financial updates, abatement policy revisions, a GIS web demo and SAHA funding coordination), transportation committee recommendations, operations committee minutes and acceptance of a closed-session performance evaluation for the county administrator that found the administrator "exceeds expectations." With no further business the board adjourned at 9:31 a.m.
