The Denison City Council on June 17 approved a broad consent agenda that included minutes, bills, reports, liquor and tobacco licenses, a tax abatement, special event permits, solid waste hauler licenses, promotions for two maintenance workers, and the hire of Christopher Jochims as a part-time police officer at $32.21 per hour effective June 17, 2025.
Council approved the Special Event Permit for Tri City BBQ Fest as a city-sponsored event and approved waiving fees for certain special event permits. The council approved a $45,000 quote from Street Smarts VR for a single-user integrated CR training solution.
During the consent discussion, resident Jennifer Kinsey asked for an update on ash trees in the right-of-way; council said it is prioritizing removal of the worst trees and City staff will explore additional approaches. Later in the meeting, Mayor Pamela Soseman said the City has paid for fireworks for Red White and Boom but the fireworks will not be held this year and the event will feature food trucks only due to volunteer and staffing concerns.
