County staff plans to issue comprehensive land‑use/transportation RFP this fall; process could take 9–18 months

County planning staff briefed commissioners on a proposed Request for Proposals (RFP) to update Wright County’s land‑use plan, incorporate a long‑range transportation plan and refresh parks and recreation planning.
Mr. Matheis said the goal is to get an RFP out in late summer or early fall (possibly September or October) and asked the board to consider scope items such as the number and location of public‑input sessions, stakeholder outreach and consultant schedules. He told the board that consultants responding to the RFP should include proposed timelines for review, public engagement and delivery; staff recommended the board review the draft RFP at an upcoming workshop before publication.
Commissioners discussed appropriate public engagement (one session per district vs. fewer centralized sessions) and noted the county’s current land‑use plan is about 20 years old and that growth pressures make an update timely. Mr. Matheis cautioned that total time to adoption depends on the degree of debate and stakeholder consensus and gave a rough range of nine to 18 months for completion and adoption.
Next steps: staff will draft the RFP and aim to present it to the board for review at an August workshop before publishing.
