The Gage County Board of Supervisors approved a $3,000 improvement grant to the Beatrice Leadership Class for a Heritage Walk initiative on June 24. Applicants Heath Hoopendick and Deidre/Deirdre Van Buskirk described producing videos and QR-code signage for about 17 downtown buildings; coalition partners will host the content when the coalition website is ready.
Applicants told the board the videos and interview footage are completed and that the coalition will take over upkeep; printed brochures and QR signage remain to be linked when the coalition's website launches (applicants estimated the website availability in August–September). The board approved the reimbursement-style grant (the project was completed) on a motion that carried 7-0.
Supervisors and the county museum association representatives encouraged expansion of the idea to other communities across Gage County and noted the project’s potential to increase downtown foot traffic and tourism.
