Residents urge city action on billboards and say schools need stronger drug enforcement

During the public-comment portion of the Jan. 14 meeting, residents pressed the council on two separate neighborhood concerns: signage along a major road and drug activity affecting students.
Michelle Herbs (speaker 6), introduced by the mayor, asked the council to begin the process of removing two billboards she said are "seen by our residents, visitors and passersby" and that may threaten Lago Vista's certified Texas Scenic City status. "These advertisements are seen by our residents... this is the first impression that people see of our city," she said, urging council to "preserve the scenic beauty of our city and our small‑town charm by beginning this process."
Travis Greeley (speaker 8), who said he was attending his first council meeting, described family experience with drug use related to high-school students and said he has been told the district defers enforcement to law enforcement. "I wanna protect kids... I believe the city should push harder," he said, urging cooperation among the city, police and school leaders.
The mayor asked commenters to provide contact information so staff can follow up; councilors and staff offered to stay copied on communications and to pass concerns to the appropriate departments for response.
