Northwest submits accreditation application; system urged to monitor federal policy changes

Chancellor Spillers told the LCTCS Board of Supervisors on Feb. 5 that Northwest Louisiana Technical Community College submitted its final accreditation application and will host a site visit on March 17. She said the college's submission was a major milestone and that the team had earned an audit with no findings.
Spillers recognized staff who worked "very, very hard" to get the application in on schedule and singled out one employee for praise. "We managed to get that final application in before our visit that's coming on March 17th," she said.
Separately, Dr. Sullivan warned the board to monitor national policy discussions, including media reports about possible structural changes to the U.S. Department of Education, because such developments could carry implications for accreditation standards and the system's approach to oversight. "Stay attuned to what's going on there because there will be implications for our colleges," Sullivan said.
Board members received the accreditation update as informational and were told staff will return with further updates as federal policy or accreditation developments require.
