LCTCS board approves roughly $15.8 million disaster-recovery grant to expand Fletcher Technical Community College

The Louisiana Community and Technical College System Board of Supervisors on Feb. 5 authorized a Cooperative Endeavor Agreement to use a Disaster Recovery Grant of approximately $15.8 million for an expansion project at Fletcher Technical Community College.
System staff said the project will include demolition, renovation and new construction to expand the college's construction trades and commercial driver's license (CDL) programs. The presentation described about 18,000 square feet of new construction and roughly 18,000 square feet of renovated existing space; staff said the work would be funded entirely by the disaster-recovery grant.
Toby Tomo, facilities staff, told the board the site will be renovated and expanded to address a shortage of CDL operators and construction workers in the region and to increase local workforce resiliency. "This will include demolition, renovation and new construction," Tomo said. He also told the board the award coming through the Office of Community Development is approximately $15.8 million and that the project scope includes both new and renovated space.
Board members moved and seconded staff's recommendation to authorize the system president and the chancellor of Fletcher Technical Community College to negotiate and execute all documents necessary to complete the Cooperative Endeavor Agreement with the Louisiana Office of Community Development, the parish government and the LCTCS Facilities Corporation. The motion carried with no objections recorded in the meeting transcript.
The board will file required agreements with the facilities corporation and the local clerk as part of standard contracting procedures. The system indicated additional implementation details will follow as documents are finalized.
