District highlights facilities, safety and transportation upgrades; school security officer program launched

Mr. Brennan presented the operations overview, saying the district has increased in-house preventative maintenance, digitized training modules (including SDS and bloodborne-pathogen modules), and is pursuing asset-tracking and financial-forecasting tools.

On safety and security, the district emphasized prevention through annual, adaptive staff training and a district school-safety working group; Mr. Brennan said the district launched a school security officer program in partnership with the local police department and is planning interviews, equipment procurement and training timelines.

Transportation goals include adoption of advanced routing software designed to improve bus-use efficiency and reduce the number of buses needed through better stop mapping. In food service, leaders noted a pending retirement of the food-service director and said farm-to-school partnerships will continue to be a priority; staffing changes may include a nutrition/dietitian role to strengthen compliance and culinary workforce development.

Board members asked for details about digitized training examples; Mr. Brennan cited SDS sheets and online videos accessible to custodial and facilities staff. The discussion also covered long-range facilities planning and a short-term rented warehouse for district storage while a permanent solution is explored.

No formal operational policy changes were voted on at the meeting; the board approved related budget transfers and the consent agenda in subsequent actions.
