Public-works staff gave a paving update: Long Swamp Road work is nearly finished and crews plan to move to Little River Road and then Center Road, with much of the capital paving budget consumed by large-scale patchwork and isolated repairs. Estimates cited during the discussion ranged from roughly $100,000 to $161,000 for larger paving work; staff said they will produce a clean number for budgeting.
The board also discussed a deteriorated bridge near Little River, reviewing whether the town owns the structure and whether it should be decommissioned or removed for safety. Members said the bridge is unsafe for vehicle traffic, currently has Jersey barriers in place, and recommended researching ownership before spending on repairs.
Other operational topics included: preparing for a new pumper tanker and station two clean-out and minor build-out to house Engine 2; plans to draft and review an RFP for a new truck and upfit; transfer-station cleanup, scale and compactor procurement logistics; and review of winter-contract terms and GPS tracking for contractors.
The board scheduled follow-ups: staff to compile solid cost estimates for paving and equipment upfits, to complete background checks and onboarding for new hires, and to pursue legal review on capital-fund carry-forward language discussed during the meeting.
